Book Review/Giveaway: Suspicious Minds

I had the pleasure of reading Christy Barritt's tongue-in-cheek suspense novel, Suspicious Minds. I haven't read too many mystery novels that successfully mesh humor with suspense, but Christy does it with great finesse. Here is the snippet from the back of the book:

Rock and roll may never die, but the King is definitely dead . . . again.

In this smart and suspenseful sequel to Hazardous Duty, crime-scene cleaner Gabby St. Claire finds herself stuck doing mold remediation to pay the bills. But her first day on the job, she uncovers a surprise in a crawl space of a dilapidated home: Elvis, dead as a doornail and still wearing his blue suede shoes. How could she possibly keep her nose out of a case like this?

Elvis turns out to be Darnell Evans, a down-on-his-luck impersonator whose luck just got a lot worse. When his widow begs her to help, Gabby takes on the case of who-killed-the-King. In the meantime, her would-be rival, Chad Davis, is turning into one hunka hunka burnin' love and starting to dish out some serious TLC, which is the last thing Gabby needs right now.

Realizing the futility of running from God and from her responsibilities, Gabby decides to reconsider her priorities. But when the ersatz Elvis's killer catches on to her investigation, will she survive long enough to be able to?

Now, the first question I had was, "Am I going to be lost, since I haven't read Hazardous Duty?" And the answer was no! I got to know Gabby St. Claire very quickly, and I really liked her! I found myself laughing out loud at her one-liners, but I enjoyed the Christian world-view in the writing.

The romantic tensions gave the story many interesting layers, and some great opportunities for comedy. All in all, this was a great read. It's not earth shattering philosophical commentary, but it's fun!

I have two copies to give away! One of them has been gently read, but you won't notice!

Ooh, I love a good mystery, and this sounds like a fun one. I'd be excited to read it if I won. I'm all about a good, well put together, Christian/Christian-Influenced read.

Thanks!
